During the Summer of 2006, I accepted a temporary part-time position at the Plainfield Public Library. The position was in the Children's Department during the busiest time of year -Summer Reading! The Plainfield Public Library had always been one of my favorite places to be during high school and while I was planning to start a career in Journalism soon after the position ended, working in the Children's Room enchanted me in a way that words can't describe. It was very obvious I enjoyed it a lot and I was offered a permanent part-time and soon after, a full-time job in the department. For ten years the Children's Department gave me a wonderful opportunity to learn about the profession and on 2015 I obtained my MLIS from Rutgers University.
Leaving the beautiful Rainforest themed Children's Library and wonderful staff was hard but I wanted to challenge myself and take a leap into management and in 2016, I accepted a position as Head of Children's Services for the vibrant Elizabeth Public Library. One of the most rewarding places to work at are Urban Libraries and Elizabeth Library gave me a great opportunity not only to prove myself but to make a difference in the community. My time there was filled with great memories, including the challenges that COVID brought. Even in the adversity, the wonderful staff found ways to come together and bring quality programs to the community.
After almost seven years working in Elizabeth Public Library, the position of Assistant Director at Plainfield Public Library opened up. The thought of "going back to where it all began" was too exciting to pass and I took another leap. I am enjoying being back in Plainfield, working alongside wonderful people that I have known for many years. I hope to be able to continue making a difference and be part of a profession that not only serves all patrons regardless of their race, color, ability, or sexual orientation but that promotes acceptance and celebrates diversity.
What else can I tell you about me? I was born in Bolivia, the heart of South America. I now live in Plainfield N.J. with my husband Eddy, my daughters Camila and Leia, and our two dogs Benji and Lando. Some of my hobbies include going for bike rides, crafting, photography, and of course reading!
